Smartphone: the European market is recovering, Samsung takes the lead

The study cabinet Counterpoint Research signals a rebound in the European smartphone market in the first quarter of 2021. Growth remains moderate, however, with an increase of only 6%, which is also a level still lower than the pre-COVID period in the first quarter of 2019.

Samsung, which has just launched its new Galaxy S21 in the premium segment, recovers first place with 32% market share. Apple is also showing good momentum with 28% EBITDA and solid growth of 31%.

Xiaomi makes a significant breakthrough

Xiaomi takes advantage of Huawei’s tumble and comes to the third step of the podium with 18% of PDM and an impressive growth of 73%. Other Chinese manufacturers, however, posted more vigorous growth, such as Oppo (+ 94%), realme (+ 183%) or even OnePlus (+ 85%), subsidiaries of the BBK Electronics group. .

Note that if Samsung dominates the European market, it is Apple which is essential in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. We can also point out the very strong push of Xiaomi in Spain which has overtaken Samsung. The manufacturer’s strategy is clearly paying off as it has tripled its market share in just 18 months.
