iOS 14.5: Facebook suggests it could be paid for because of ad blocking

“If it’s free, then you are the product”, this quote makes perfect sense with iOS 14.5. Apple’s latest update allows users who wish to block ad tracking and therefore limit personal data transmitted to third parties. A change that is causing a stir, because many companies have relied on advertising revenue to develop, this is particularly the case of the Facebook group.

Mark Zuckerberg’s firm relies on computer cookies to track users and thus offer more relevant targeted advertising. Delivering the right message at the right time is somewhat the key to success in this area and iOS 14.5 calls its existence into question.

However, Facebook can still feed its algorithms by analyzing your activity on the network or for example by recovering data that comes from devices other than the iPhone.

Facebook soon paying on iOS?

Still, this is a major change and the social media giant intends to convince you not to block tracking. A message explains that the risk is to see Facebook or Instagram switch to a paid model, because the one based on advertising would no longer be viable …
