Update 03/05/2021 – As of Monday, the restrictions in place for the day are no longer in force in France, as President Emmanuel Macron had indicated. To learn more about this, we invite you to read our article Curfew certificate: what you need to know about the new document and the measures in force. No need for a certificate to move away more than 10km from your home, therefore. However, the curfew remains valid until June 30 and you will have to use a new derogatory certificate if you have to travel between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. So we added it to this article.
The curfew has been in effect across the country since mid-December. Initially introduced at 8 p.m., the government advanced it to 6 p.m. in January to finally push it back to 7 p.m. throughout France. But if the government’s plans come to fruition, we can expect to see the end of the tunnel by June 30, when the curfew is expected to end. In the meantime, it should go back to 9 p.m. from May 19 and then to 11 p.m. from June 9.
Until then, you will have to continue filling out a derogatory certificate if you are forced to travel between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., or even use proof of school or professional travel. Here’s where to find the different documents and how to choose the right one for your situation.
Download the new certificate for the curfew
As the rules changed again on Monday, May 3, the government had to put a new version of the derogatory certificate online. It comes in several versions, including a so-called “easy to read and understand” version for people with disabilities as well as in English.
You should print, fill out, date and sign the certificates, but you can also copy their content on plain paper. Remember to take other documents with you attesting to the reason for your trip.
Download smartphone version
These certificates can also be generated on a smartphone. To do this, go to the generator developed by the government. He will provide you with a digital version with a QR Code that the police can scan in the event of a check.
Please note that we have written a guide to help those who need it to carry out their certificate on their smartphone. You will also find various practical tips there:
Download the certificates via TousAntiCovid
Last option, you can access the certificates via the TousAntiCovid application, which will also provide you with a QR Code. To download TousAntiCovid, it’s here:
Tousanticovid is the application set up by the French government during the coronavirus pandemic. It provides information on the situation, makes it possible to create travel certificates, and, above all, to identify contact cases.

Download the professional proof
Finally, professional proof of destination, as its name suggests, employees who cannot telework or who are forced to travel for work during the curfew is also available. It is also permanent, it must be completed by his employer if the trips are regular. You can download it by clicking on the link below:
Note that self-employed workers can use the classic derogatory certificate, by checking the appropriate reason in the list.
What about international travel?
International travel within Europe is once again permitted. In this case, you must have in your possession a negative PCR test carried out less than 72 hours before your departure and complete a sworn declaration attesting that you do not experience any symptoms of Covid 19. Here is where to download the model declaration:
On the other hand, international travel outside the EU remains prohibited, unless there is a compelling reason. To learn more about international travel, go to the website of the Ministry of the Interior.
And don’t forget, if you travel without a certificate and without a legitimate reason during the curfew, you risk a fine of € 135, and more in the event of a repeat offense.
