PS5: Sony plans to upgrade its console to limit the impact of lack of components


Sony considers that the shortage of components will impact the inventory of PS5 until the end of the year and that it will probably be necessary to wait until the second quarter of 2022 for things to improve. In an interview, Hiroki Totoki, the financial director of the Japanese firm specifies that it is however possible to adapt and to show flexibility in order to improve the supply, he adds moreover that the shortage of semi- conductors is not the only factor impacting production volume.

Totoki indicates that various avenues are on the table in order to improve the situation. In particular, it is planned to review the design of the PS5 to adapt: ​​”for example, maybe we could find a secondary resource, or by modifying the design, we could face ».

A statement that leaves one wondering, is Sony considering launching a third version or is it simply a matter of changing suppliers for certain components? Totoki does not answer these questions and we will probably have to wait some time to find out more.

Sony’s goal for the second fiscal year of the PS5 is to exceed the sales volume of the PS4 which, let us remember, passed 14.8 million copies.
